The brooklyneagle.com site continues the original Eagle's distortions concerning Russell and his ministry in the form of "This Day in History" stories.
http://www.brooklyneagle.com/categories/category.php?category_id=23&id=16437

Most Bible Students know that the Jehovah's Witnesses organization was not founded by Charles Taze Russell. He did not believe in such an organization, nor did he believe in its teachings. The Jehovah's Witnesses organization was formed after Russell died by Joseph Rutherford, who, by means of deceit and legal trickery, gained control of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, and used that legal entity as a basis to form a new organization which he later called "Jehovah's Witnesses".  Rutherford led his followers into denial of the central teachings of Russell, especially the "ransom for all". Rutherford denied that Jesus' ransom sacrifice will benefit all who are dying in Adam.

Russell and his associates never called themselves "Russellites"; this was a name given them by others, not a name that they called themselves. The Bible Students still exist today totally separate from the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, and the Jehovah's Witnesses.

The only shares that anyone owned of the WTS were "voting shares"; no capital stock was ever issued to anyone, not to Russell or anyone else. However, for each contribution of $10.00 any contributor was entitled to one voting share. By 1915 there were nearly two hundred thousand shares, most of which I understand were owned by people other than Russell, and as it was written in 1915, though "it would be an easy matter to elect some other man as president, there never has been cast a vote against Pastor Russell."

The false statements appear to be based on Russell's use of a non-incorporated company called "United States Investment Company". This company was formed as a limited partnership by Russell around 1896 in Pennsylvania in which Russell put up the money for and capital was recorded in his name and two others. This may be where all the idea of Russell owning 90% (or some other percentage) of the Watch Tower Society has come from, although this company was not the Watch Tower Society, nor was it even a corporation. Russell evidently formed this company because some had objected to the Watch Tower Society's receiving and selling real estate and other items, so this "company" had been formed for that purpose, to take care of this in a business manner totally separate from the Watch Tower Society. Of course, this made it appear at least on paper that Russell had 90% interest in any property and assets owned by this company so his opponents evidently saw this as reason to promote all kinds of wild speculations and false accusations, which evidently became twisted to what is stated in the Eagle story. In truth any profits that came from business activities of this company went directly to the Watch Tower Society. No one was receiving any secret profit from this company. This company had nothing at all to do with the sale of "Miracle Wheat", nor was this company a "holding company" for all monies of the Watch Tower Society.

The article continues the same incorrect information originally spread by the Eagle concerning Russell and Miracle Wheat. The full, true story concerning Miracle Wheat may be found at:
http://ctr.reslight.net/miracle-wheat.html

No charge of incest, or any other sexual immorality, was ever brought into any court against Russell. Russell's wife did make a lot of insinuations, and hearsay statements supposedly said to Mrs. Russell implying that he had been inappropriately intimate with a foster-daughter that Mr. Russell and his wife were caring for, but in none of the statements was there any actual charge presented of adultery, or incest. The judge overruled the admission of this testimony on the grounds that there were no proof, and also because of Mrs. Russell's statement that she was not bringing a charge of adultery against her husband, thus all of this testimony was considered irrelevant, although that did not keep the Eagle from using this and twisting it to destroy the reputation of Russell as much as possible.

The Eagle never ceased to distort the truth as much as possible, at least concerning Russell:

There was only one instance I could find that Russell did not show up for a discourse for which the newspapers ran articles concerning the same discourse as though it had been presented. The circumstances was due to a storm that caused the delay of their boat to Honolulu, and the party aboard the boat became sick. The custom was, and is still practiced today, to send out a press release ahead of time so that newspapers would have a story to print as soon after the discourse. In that one case, however, the party did not make it to Honolulu at the time scheduled, and there was no way to cancel the release, and the newspapers carried the story even though Russell and his party were still on the boat at the time he was supposed to have given the discourse.

The Eagle, in its hatred for Russell, used this as a form of attack against Russell. If this happened to anyone else but Russell (and I am sure similar things have happened to other speakers), it may have been thought of as a funny happening, but I doubt anyone would have given much greater thought to such an event.

Concerning businesses run from the Watchtower headquarters during Russell's tenure what is the history of the Solon Association and the company Logan, Land and Whitehouse.

As far as I can tell, the Solon Association was not an operation from the Watch Tower Society. Here is what I could find concerning the Solon Association:

This appeared in the "Announcements" in the Watch Tower of December1, 1904:

As usual, all WATCH TOWER subscriptions for the United
States for 1905 will include subscriptions to the Old Theology
Quarterly. And this year we have effected a special arrangement
by which all paid WATCH TOWER subscriptions for 1905
will include without extra charge, a subscription to the Solon
Journal (monthly) for four months. It is a secular journal of
good tone; price with privileges $2 a year. Its claims for
public recognition we heartily endorse, having profited thereby
ourselves. Its advantages apply only within the United
States, hence this offer is thus limited. All U.S. subscribers
may look for their first number in January.

From December 15, 1904 issue:

SOLON JOURNAL
----------
In our last issue we erred in regard to the price of the
Solon Journal. It is not $2 per year, but $1. Arrangements
are effected by which all WATCH TOWER subscriptions
will, on the clubbing plan, include a four months
subscription to the Solon Journal, or it and the WATCH
TOWER together will cost you $1.50 for the entire year.
See our last issue, pages 354 and 360.

The following appeared in the January 1, 1905 issue:

SOLON JOURNAL DELAYED.
----------
All fully paid TOWER subscriptions for 1905 will include
4 months' issues of the Solon Journal, with every
privilege accorded to "Solons" for same period. The
Solon Journal publishers, we understand, are being hindered
from mailing their issue for January by Post Office
official who do not understand the large increase in
the Solon lists occasioned by our liberal "clubbing" arrangement.
We feel sure that our readers will appreciate
our zeal for their interests.

***

In our last issue we announced that the "Gazette"
discontinued the publication of these sermons, and that
the DISPATCH, Pittsburg's principal newspaper, had taken
them up, with the understanding that should they
be discontinued balances of subscription SENT IN BY US
would be refunded.
The DISPATCH rate is 2 cents per copy, $6.00 per year.
By a special clubbing arrangement we are enabled to
supply the DISPATCH, ZION'S WATCH TOWER, the "Solon
Journal" and any four volumes you may choose of MILLENNIAL
DAWN, all for the price of the DISPATCH alone.
Those who prefer may subscribe for six months at same
rate, $3.00, or for three months for $1.50. Those who
have already sent in WATCH TOWER subscriptions for
1905 may deduct the amount from the $6.00 and send
the balance.

The following appeared in the May 1, 1905 issue:

THE SOLON JOURNAL DISCONTINUED.
----------
The brethren of the "Solon Association" request us to
explain that its "Solon Journal" was started largely to reach
and advantage WATCH TOWER readers, and that having
issued the four numbers promised to our readers its further
publication has been abandoned for the present, because
its motive was misunderstood or not appreciated. Subscriptions
paid in will be refunded. Those of our readers
interested in the purposes of the Solon Association, or who
desire to use it further, are promised every assistance if they
will address "Solon Association," P.O. Box 1134, Pittsburgh.

====================

Evidently this was an association that was formed alongside the Watch Tower by some brothers with the intent to publish a journal, but which was very short-lived. If anyone has anymore information concerning this, feel free to post.

Dreese,

So far, I have found nothing about a company named Logan, Land and Whitehouse. Where did you hear of this?

It supposedly was a company set up  to purchase merchandise wholesale for the friends from suppliers who only sold merchandise to companies rather than individuals. Logan, Land and Whithouse were the last names of three sisters in whose name the company was set up and they were connected to the Solon Association.

It is part of the transcript of CT Russell's court case against his wife or some other related legal issue. He is said to have not had any knowledge of these two companies (S.A./L.L.W.) but then changed his testimony and remembered them after the three sisters were on the stand and gave details of how the companies (2) functioned and who initiated them.

He is said to have not had any knowledge.......................

Is this part of the transcript showing he changed his testimony or is this someone's allegation?

btw....Good work Br Ron.

If anyone knows where I could obtain copies of the actual transcripts of the court cases involving Russell, I would really appreciate it. It is difficult to tell from the way things are presented in accusations against Russell as to whether what is being said is being presented accurately or not. If what I have read concerning Russell's statements in court about the Solon Company is true, Russell first denied knowing anything about the Solon Company, but later testified that he did. It is, however, what may have been left out that I would like to examine.

The Eagle site has again placed the old Eagle's story with basically the same accusations.

I may respond to the new post later, Yahweh willing.
