A listing of the chapter headings should give one an idea of what is discussed in the book: The Inspiration of the Old Testament * The Hebrew Manuscripts and the Early Versions * Lower Criticism of the Old Testament * History of the Documentary Theory of the Pentateuch * Higher Cristicism of the Pentateuch in the Twentieth Century * The Authorship of the Pentateuch * Variations and Doublets as Criteria for Source Division * Late Words and Aramaisms as Criteria for Source Division * Wellhausen's Reconstruction of the Hebrew History in the Preprophetic and Prophetic Periods * Archaelogical Evidence for the Antiquity of the Pentateuch * Introduction to Hebrew Poetry.

Brief excerpts for Reader's comments: "This work is definitively evangelical and conservative." "Dr. Archer does not succumb to the critical, liberal views that are so rampant in today's 'Christian' literature." "Archer is one of the top OT scholars alive -- he has degrees from Princeton and Harvard and knows about 20 ancient languages. He just shreds most of the critical arguments against the historical reliability of the Bible." "The new edition is updated and is the best book on history and archaeology of the Bible, from any orientation.""Archer ... puts forth the strongest arguments for the traditional view and against the critical that I have ever seen in print."

Please note that I have not read this book. However, from the description and comments given on the book, it appears that this would be a good book to read, as it is claimed to refute much of the arguments that critics have fostered against the Biblical Accounts. Nevertheless, much that the author says may be his own viewpoints that do not necessarily agree with our own. -- RRD.
